What Is Duplicate Product Synchronization?

Duplicate product sync is the process of linking separate Shopify product listings or variants so they reflect one unified inventory balance with automated tools like Duplicup. Whenever stock changes on any linked page—whether from an online checkout, an in-store POS sale, or a warehouse restock—the new quantity is immediately mirrored across all sibling variants.

Technical Architecture: How Sync Works Under the Hood

Reliable inventory sync requires handling concurrency, webhook retries, and rate limits. Here is how a production sync engine processes inventory events:

1. Webhook Ingestion

When an order is created or inventory is adjusted, Shopify triggers an inventory_levels/update webhook containing the updated inventory_item_id, location_id, and available quantity.
